ASSERTIVENESS & SELF-ADVOCACY
Assertiveness is the ability to stand up for yourself and your needs, while also respecting the rights of others. Assertiveness is essential to build self-identity, honesty, and mutual respect within a relationship.
BUT assertive communication can be challenging. Common challenges include:
Building up the courage to speak honestly
Communicating your thoughts and feelings in an appropriate way
Using non-verbal cues and body language to demonstrate assertiveness
In this 4-week group, we use a variety of pop culture video clips and scenarios to teach participants about assertiveness and related strategies. Participants will also learn about different communication styles, consent, strategies to say no, self-protection, and mindfulness. There is an emphasis on role playing and practising strategies in action in this group.
